More houses for Jaffna IDPs

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Thirty new houses constructed by the Sri Lanka Army in Jaffna were vested with the beneficiaries at a ceremony held at Thellippalai recently. According to Army media, the houses had been constructed by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Jaffna peninsula.

The houses were built with the skill and expertise of the Sri Lanka Army Engineers of the SFHQ-J while the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs provided the required raw materials and funds for the construction project. Work on the project was completed in less than five months’ time.

Last week, a similar project with 25 houses was handed over to IDP beneficiaries at Nallinakkapuram. The 100 house Keerimalai housing project was also ceremonially handed over to the people several months ago.

The house handing over ceremony was graced by Hon Mawei Senadhiraja MP. Senior state officials and Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi were also present at the occasion.
