Contributions Made By the Muslims towards the Independence of Sri Lanka

 

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Within the Muslim community, there were eminent traders and scholars who worked hard for the independence of Sri Lanka.

In 1910, scholar M.C. Siddhe Lebbe, A.M. Wapichchi Marikar, General Orabi Pasha from Egypt, Mapillai Lebbe Alim from India, Abdullah Bin Umar Al Yemani from Yemen, Sir Macan Markar, Dr.Badiudin Mahmood and in 1915-1922, Dr T.B. Jayah, Sir Razik Fareed, Dr M.C.M. Kaleel extended their support to Hon. D.S. Senanayake in the political changes, discussions, agreements, constitutional reforms and put forward important matters and has contributed greatly for the freedom of our country.
