(UTV|COLOMBO) – A Presidential pardon has been sought for a Tamil political prisoner by the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen on humanitarian grounds.

Leader of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), and Vanni District Parliamentarian, Minister Bathiudeen in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena urged to release the Tamil political prisoner, Satchithanantham Ananda Suthakaran whose wife died this month, leaving their children without a parent.

Ananda Suthakaran was given only three-hours to attend the funeral of his wife and see his children.

Meanwhile, a signature campaign calling for the pardon of Ananda Suthakaran has been underway across the North-East, after emotional photos of the funeral of his wife, in which their young son performed the last rites and their young daughter attempted to board a prison bus with her father who was given three-hours to attend the funeral, went viral on social media.
