Two Lankan Naval ships return home after Indian tour

(UTV|COLOMBO) – SLNS Samudura and Suranimila of Sri Lanka Navy, which left for India on 02 March to attend MILAN – an initiative of the Indian Navy aimed to create a forum for the littoral navies of the region to exchange thoughts in the area of maritime cooperation, returned the port of Colombo on completion of successful tour.The ships were welcomed at the harbour premises in accordance with naval traditions upon their return. A host of senior naval officers including the Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Commodore Sanath Uthpala were present on this occasion. They exchanged views of the tour events and its progress with the two Commanding Officers of the ships as well.

The naval exercise was attended by 19 ships representing 17 countries. Meanwhile, as part of a number of events lined up in Milan 2018, the ships’ crew engaged in a band concert, International Maritime Seminar, musical evening, cultural evening and food festival, Table Top Exercise, jungle survival demo, MILAN banquet, international city parade and multilateral exercises. MILAN 2018 was held at Port Blair from 06 to 13 March 2018, with the underlying theme of ‘Friendship across the Seas’.
