Man arrested in Dubai for killing a medical student

UTV | Dubai: Dubai Police arrested a Pakistani national suspected of killing a medical student in his home country, officials told Gulf News on Wednesday.

Mujahid Afridi allegedly shot Asma Rani Murder three times outside her home in Kohat in January.

Afridi, 25, killed the third-year medical student in Abbottabad and was arrested in Dubai on March 10 before being handed over to Pakistan with the help of Interpol.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, said the suspect escaped from Pakistan and travelled to several countries before he was arrested in Dubai.

“The suspect had changed his appearance but we managed to identify him. He was shocked when we arrested him,” Maj-Gen Al Merri said.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said the man was under police surveillance since he arrived from a neighboring Gulf country.

“We have full cooperation from Interpol and recently we received a request from Pakistani authorities about a suspect called Mujahid. He entered the country before the arrival of the warrant, but we identified his location and arrested him,” Maj Gen Al Mansouri said.

“Pakistan alerted Interpol that he might come to the UAE. Despite shaving his beard and moustache, we recognised him and handed him over to Pakistan,” he said.

Police said he was also wanted for another murder committed in Pakistan before Asma’s murder. (Courtesy – Gulfnews)
