14-Day detention order on suspects in Kandy violence; Main suspects brought to Colombo

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Police on Thursday (08) stated that a 14-day detention order has been issued, under State of Emergency regulations, to detain the 10 suspects who were arrested over the violence in Kandy.

The detention order was issued by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID), and the suspects were brought to Colombo for further questioning.

Amith Jeewan Weerasinghe, the main suspect accused of instigating the violence in Kandy was arrested Thursday morning along with 9 other suspects.

Weerasinghe along with other suspects have been accused of instigating violence in Kandy through social media and were arrested by the TID following a special operation. Furthermore, 71 other suspects also have been arrested over violence.
