Demo staged in Jaffna over civilian deaths in Syria war

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A demonstration was staged in Jaffna on Thursday (01) over the civilian deaths as a result of the war in Syria.

Airstrikes, shellings and the reported use of chemical weapons have killed more than 580 Syrian civilians, including countless children and women, in less than two weeks, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Syrian conflict enters its 8th year this month. More than 465,000 Syrians have been killed in the fighting, over a million injured, and over 12 million – half the country’s pre-war population – have been displaced from their homes.
