Elections Commission to protect voter rights of new voters

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Elections Commission (EC) has directed its attention to protect the voting rights of new voters who complete 18 years of age at the upcoming election.

During a meeting held with party representatives at the Elections Commission, Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said female representation should be made compulsory when establishing national committees for political parties.

Speaking to media, the Executive Director of the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election or PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said the commission will seek the advice of the Attorney General after the Final Delimitation Report is completed and gazetted.

Rohana Hettiarachchi has stated that all technical aspects of delimitation will be solved, claiming that it will immediately facilitate the commencement of the Local Government Election, Udhayam news learns.
