More info comes to light relating to Lasantha’s murder

UTV | COLOMBO – Former SSP Hemantha Adhikari who is currently under investigation in connection with the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga has made a 3-hour confidential statement before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate.

The counsel appearing on behalf of the former SSP informed that his client is ready to make a confidential statement before the Magistrate when the case was taken up last Friday.

Accordingly, the statement was recorded at the Magistrate’s official chamber.

Former senior DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara and former OIC of Mt. Lavinia Police’s Crime Division, SI Tissa Sugathapala who were both arrested by the CID on charges of concealing evidence with regard to the murder probe, are now in remand custody.

Former IGP Jayantha Wickramaratne, Senior DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara, and former SSP Hemantha Adhikari have also been barred from travelling abroad.

Journalist, Lasantha Wickramatunga was killed on the 8th of January 2009, at the high-security zone in Mt. Lavinia – Attidiya, while he was on his way to work.
