Navy assists repatriation of 109 Indian fishermen and 6 Sri Lankan fishermen

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the repatriation of 109 Indian fishermen and 06 Sri Lankan fishermen who had been apprehended due to engagement of poaching, on Tuesday (20).

The 109 Indian fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan custody, were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ships “Atulya” and “Rani Durgawati” in the International Maritime Boundary Line North of Kankasanthurai. Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Gun Boats SLNS Edithara ll, SLNS Wickrama ll, SLNS Prathapa and Coast Guard Craft “CG 409” were deployed for the mission. Six Sri Lankan fishermen who were brought to SLNS Uthtara, were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries- Jaffna for onward action.
