UTV | US – President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Feb. 07) ordered to reinstate the Defence Attaché to the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, Brigadier Priyanka Fernando after Foreign Ministry issued a directive to Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in London to suspend his services
His services were suspended due to an incident took place on 4th of February in London.
A group of LTTE proxies had staged a demonstration in front of the Sri Lankan High Commission in London on Independence Day.
The High Commission staff came out of the premises when the demonstration was underway.
Thereafter, a video depicting Brigadier Fernando making gestures towards the protestors was circulated on social media.
A group of British Parliamentarians have also written to the UK Foreign Secretary raising their concerns over the incident.
Brigadier Fernando has been a highly decorated officer in the Military and he had joined the London High Commission as Defence Attaché 6 months ago.
He is a product of D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo.
Brig. Fernando is a father of two and he was born in Kandy.
