Election Commission requests private sector to grant leave to vote

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya requested all the employers of the privet sector to grant sufficient period of leave to their employees for them to cast their votes and also emphasized that it is the responsibility of every employee to obtain minimum leave sufficient to travel to and from their polling station for the purpose of casting their votes, without interrupting the functioning of the institution.

Suggesting the minimum period to be granted in a table, the Chairman said, “But there can be several occasions where three days leave as may be deemed necessary to be granted to employees who will need three days to travel from their places of work to the prescribed polling station and to return.”
