Navy rescues 3 fishermen stranded in seas off Delft Island

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Fast Gun Boats (FGBs) attached to the Northern Naval Command has rescued 3 fishermen in distress, aboard a fishing boat with an engine failure off the Delft Island.

The 3 fishermen aboard the fishing boat ‘Dileeka’ had left the Gurunagar Jetty on 24 January and a failure inflicted on their boat engine whilst fishing off Nayanativu Island. On receipt of information of this unfortunate incident, 2 FGBs of the Northern Naval Command were deployed to locate the missing boat, under the directives of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva. SLNS Wickrama II spotted the fishing boat drifting off the Delft Island near the IMBL.

Subsequently, the fishing boat along with fishermen was safely towed to the shores of the Delft Island and the fishermen were handed over to their relatives.
