Maldivian Coast Guard detains boat with Lankans on-board

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Maldivian Coast Guard units had intervened and brought a fishing boat of Seychelles origin, with six Sri Lankans on-board, into custody on Sunday (14).

The boat had tread into the country’s economic zone, Avas online reported.

Maldives National Defense Force has confirmed that the fishing boat was captured upon being reported of its sighting by local fishermen. At the time the vessel was captured it was traveling 38 miles outbound of Laamu atoll Kahdhoo.

MNDF placed the time of intervention around 11:45hrs on Sunday morning. The vessel had 6 Sri Lankan nationals on-board.

Seychelles’ “FV Wicked Tuna 01” brought under Coast Guard’s intervention when it had trekked into Maldivian border while trying to reach its home country’s Port Victoria. The vessel was traveling from Sri Lanka, which explained the Lankan nationals on-board it.

Additionally MNDF had intercepted a Sri Lankan origin fishing boat yesterday.
