Navy renders assistance to find 356kg of Kerala cannabis and apprehend a person with intoxicating tablets

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Based on information received by the Navy, a group of Navy Marines attached to the Northwestern Naval Command combined with officials of the Silawathura Police and the Narcotics Division of Mannar found 356 kg of Kerala cannabis during a search conducted in the general area of Kayakkuli.

It is suspected that the consignment of cannabis had been concealed at the above location with the intention of transferring the same to a different area. The stock of cannabis was handed over to the Silawathura Police for onward legal action.

Meanwhile, a person possessing tablets of intoxicating drug Tramadol was nabbed by a team of naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command in coordination with STF personnel of Gonahena during a raid carried out in Wellampitiya area yesterday (11 January). There were 1,000 tablets of Tramadol in his possession, which were made ready for sale by the suspect. The suspect along with the tablets was handed over to the Wellampitiya Police Station for further action.
