First ship arrives at Hambantota Port after Chinese take over

UTV | COLOMBO – Following the transfer of ownership of the Hambantota Port to China, the first cargo ship arrived at the Port yesterday (18).

The vessel was a vehicle carrier. It had arrived from Panama with 400 vehicle units.

However, it was reported there was not enough staff at the Port to handle the services after the ship had arrived.

Meanwhile, the Sathyagraha initiated by the parents of the port workers demanding that their children be recruited by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority is still continuing.

The agitation campaign started 29 days ago.

Our correspondent said that ousted port employees dashed coconuts and engaged in prayers at the main entrance of the Hambantota Port yesterday.
