Rains expected to decrease – Met. Department

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The depression in the Bay of Bengal sea area is moving further away from Sri Lanka. Hence, its effect for the country is expected to lessen and the possibility for rainy weather is decreasing over the island, the Department of Meteorology predicted today (07).

This system is located nearly 850km to the North-east of Trincomalee. It is likely to develop in to a deep depression during next 36 hours and move towards north-northwest direction in the Bay of Bengal sea area.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at few places in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central Southern and Western provinces and in the Puttalam, Mannar and Ampara districts after 2.00 PM.

Temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers are expected and the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.
