CID to investigate fuel shortage claims

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has begun an investigation over false claims made on Sunday night (19) of another fuel shortage in the country.

The claims led to panic buying by motorists in some areas.

However, the Petroleum Resources Development Ministry emphasised that there is no fuel shortage and the country has sufficient stocks of fuel.

A shortage of fuel was reported earlier this month for close to 7-days due to a shipment of substandard fuel arriving in the country.
