Government to go ahead with Uma Oya Project

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Irrigation and Water Resource Management Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza said that the Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development Project would not be halted and the Government would go ahead with the project while finding solutions to the current problematic situation.

He made these remarks addressing media on Tuesday (11) at the Ministry.

The Minister said that the experts from Norway and German have been invited to observe the project and provide their expertise to settle the prevailing problematic situation. According to the Minister, a Norwegian group of experts will arrive in the island soon and they would provide scientific solutions to fix the matters.

He further added that, the Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development Project faced such a fate due to the irregularities occurred when the contract is handed over to a contractor. The contract has not been handed over following a due tender process, he added.

The people, who were affected by the project, will be paid compensation, the Minister added.
