Navy apprehends 10 persons engaged in illegal fishing

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A group of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, during routine patrol, apprehended 10 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing using Dynamite explosives in the waters South of Iranathivu Island on Thursday (29).

Along with the fishermen, 2 dinghies, 11 unauthorised fishing nets, 11 diving masks, 11 pairs of diving fins, 2 GPS units and 29kg of fish-harvest were taken into Naval custody.

The apprehended fishermen, fishing gear and the stock of fish were handed over to the Fisheries Resources Management Assistant, Kilinochchi for onward investigations.
