SAITM Protest: Two more arrested over forcible entry to Health Ministry

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Two more university students were arrested last night in connection with the forcible entry to the Health Ministry in Maradana and damaging public property during the protest against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) last week.

According to the Police, a 24-year-old Dinesh Maduranga, a student of University of the Visual and Performing Arts was arrested in Siyambalanduwa, while a 22-year-old Dimuthu Lakshan, a member of Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) was arrested in Katana.

The suspects will be produced before the Siyambalanduwa and Maligakanda Courts today.

The Convener of the IUSF, Lahiru Weerasekara, and the Convener of the Inter University Bhikku Federation (IUBF), Ven. Tampitiye Sugathananda Thero, were also arrested and remanded in connection with the SAITM protest earlier.
