“Think of displaced Muslims when celebrating” – Minister Bathiudeen

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Wishing the Muslim community of Sri Lanka a peaceful Eid ul-Fitr festival, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen also calls them to keep their displaced people in mind when celebrating.

“I wish all the Muslims of Sri Lanka a peaceful and happy Eid ul-Fitr. While we celebrate the end of fasting with Eid ul-Fitr, express our feelings of mutual appreciation and generosity, it is important that we remember to support the less fortunate Muslims in Sri Lanka,” the Minister stated.

“Among such needy Muslims in Sri Lanka are the internally displaced Muslims of Northern Province. Thousands of such Muslims were displaced from North during the three decades of war and many of them are in need of assistance, living in squalid conditions. I and my family members were among such displaced Northern Muslims. Today, I appeal to all the members of the Muslim community celebrating Eid ul-Fitr to remember these desperate people when they celebrate-and to assist them,” Minister Bathiudeen stressed.
