Sri Lankan Court extends remand of five Indian fishermen till June 19

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A Sri Lankan court Monday (12) further remanded five Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy last month for poaching in the island’s territorial seas.

Thalaimannar Magistrate Court extended the remand of the five fishermen until June 19 when they were brought to the court today.

Sri Lanka Navy arrested the five Indian fishermen along with their fishing dhow when they were allegedly poaching in the seas north of Mannar on May 1.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K Palaniswami has taken up the issue with the central Indian government saying that the arrest of the fishermen is an act to derail the diplomatic bid to resolve the nagging fishermen issue.
