Naval troops take preventive action and clean waterways

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy has taken the initiative to clean several canals in vulnerable parts of the Colombo suburbs in order to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

According to Navy media, Naval troops are involved in cleaning waterways in several areas including Dlaugama Junction, Old Kandy Road, Wanathamulla, Thalagapatha, Meegahawaththa, Peliyagoda, Wanawasala Railway Station and Duthugemunu Mawatha, Peliyagoda in Kelaniya and Beddagana Canal located within the Kotte Municipal Council areas.

Having identified possible sites that face the risk of flooding during the monsoons, Naval troops commenced this community welfare effort on June 01 under the direction of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.

Naval troops are assisted by respective local council authorities and the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation in this arduous task.
