A series of programs in Polonnaruwa to mark Poson Poya

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A series of programs will be held on June 08, 09 and 10 in Polonnaruwa under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to mark the Poson Poya day.

The Bandaranaike-Senanayake Poson Maha Bath Dansala organized by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association for the 57th consecutive year will be held on June 08 and 09 near the Polonnaruwa Parakrama Samudraya and the President will open this to the public.

Annually, the Poson Maha Bath Dansala organized under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena, Chairman of the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association, for the benefit of the thousands of devotees visiting Polonnaruwa to worship historic religious places in the area.

The Poson Poya day programme of the Sadaham Yathra Dharma Deshana, will be held at the Medirigiriya vatadage with the participation of the President.

The Pulathisi Poson Udanaya program will be held in the premises of historic Gal Viharaya on the 8th, 9th and 10th of this month. The opening of the sacred relics taken from Nelligala Raja Maha Viharaya will be opened for the worship of devotees at 2.00pm on Poson Full Moon Day with participation of the President.

A Poson Zone will consist of nearly 75 large lanterns created by the members of the tri-forces, Civil Defence Force and Police, and also a Bhakthi Gee recitation.

The historic Poson Maha Perahera will be started from historic Vatadageya under the patronage of President Sirisena at 7.00pm on the 9th of June. This annual Poson Perahera is organized by the Chief Incumbent of Solosmasthanaya, Polonnaruwa Ven. Panditha Vendaruve Upali Nayaka Thero and Maha Sangha, state institutions in the district and the Pulathisi farming community.

All these religious programs are organized to bless the country and the people with the dawn of Poson Full Moon Day.
