Minister Bathiudeen urge Government to uphold religious freedom

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen while addressing the Parliament on Tuesday (06) condemned violence against Muslims in Sri Lanka and urged the Government to uphold minority rights and freedom of religion.

It is highly-essential that the rule of law be applied against those who are responsible for attacks on Muslims and it is imperative that minority rights and freedom of religion are upheld, he emphasised.

“I had seen the scars of war and bombs, therefore I and my community do not want to see another war or an ethnic issue in the country,” Minister Bathiudeen said, adding that “It is important that the Government and the Police ensure that there is no impunity for hate crimes, and I urged Hon. President and Hon. Prime Minister to take immediate action before the situation gets out of hand.”
