Landslide warning in 7 districts extended

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The 24 hour landslide warning issued in seven districts has been extended by a further 24 hours.

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) said the warning was issued in the Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kalutara and Nuwara-Eliya Districts.

The NBRO said if rains are experienced in these areas, the possibility of landslides remains high.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the disaster situation remains at 213. The Disaster Management Centre said a further 79 individuals are still reported missing.

150 individuals have been injured from the floods and landslides that affected 15 districts in the island. 65,000 persons have been lodged in 321 relief camps thus far.

The DMC said 1,735 houses have been fully damaged from the disaster while a further 9,400 houses have been partly damaged.
