120,000 Jobs in fisheries sector by 2019

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera assured that about 120, 000 jobs will be offered in the fisheries sector by 2019.

Of them, 40,000 jobs will be created under the two aquaculture industrial parks to be established in Mannar and Batticaloa covering 3000 and 2000 acres respectively. Also another aquaculture park named ‘Crab City’ will be established in Hambantota creating 20,000 jobs.

In addition, another 60,000 jobs will be available with the implementation of the program for increasing fish production by 100% in association with the fish and aquatic plants food centre in Kapparatota, aquaculture breeding centres and reservoirs and lakes island wide.
