Navy apprehends three local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A group of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command apprehended three local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities using explosives in the seas off Northern.

Along with the fishermen, 2 fibre glass dinghies, 30 kg of illegally caught fish, 4 diving masks and 2 pairs of diving fins used for fishing practices were taken into naval custody. The arrested fishermen and their fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Velani for onward legal action.
