[UPDATE] – Disaster death toll rises to 202: 629,742 People of 163,701 families affected

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The death toll resulting from disaster conditions stands at 202 with 96 still reported missing, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said on Wednesday (31).

In its latest situation report, the DMC said the adverse weather condition had left 63 people injured. In total, 629,742 people of 163,701 families had been affected by the weather calamity.

According to the DMC, 1,505 houses had been fully damaged while 7,617 houses were partially damaged due to the floods and landslides.

The Districts of Ratnapura, Kalutara, Matara, Galle, Hambantota, Gampaha, Kegalle, Matale, Kandy, Vavuniya, Mulaivu, Colombo, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Nuwara Eliya have been affected.

The South-West monsoon unleashed torrential rains, which ravaged across 15 Districts in the Western and Southern parts of the country. The disaster is described as one of the worst-ever calamities since the 2003 floods.
