Many relief for affected electricity consumers

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Steps have been taken to provide relief for power to the affected people, said Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

The minister said that due to the disaster situation in Ratnapura District, more than 100,000 power outages were reported and it has reduced to 60,000 now. In Matara District, more than 136, 000 power outages were reported and it has reduced to 40,000. 40,000 and 22,000 power outages are reported in Kalutara and Galle Districts respectively.

When the disaster situation subsides we will get personnel from other areas to restore the power said the minister. He further added that a mobile generator has been given to the Neluwa Hospital as well.

The contact number 011 – 3 030 303 has been introduced to inform power breakdowns.

A circular has been issued to provide relief to flood and landslide victims and according to that free power connections, replacing damaged electricity meters, free check on the wiring and a grace period of six months has been given to pay the arrears of bills added the minister.
