Navy steps-up flood relief operations in affected areas

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Amidst the prevailing inclement weather condition in the country, the Sri Lanka Navy stepped-up flood relief operations in affected areas in the Southern and Western provinces of the island, today (26). Promptly responding to the contingency situation, the Navy at present has deployed over 26 relief, search and rescue teams comprising 160 naval personnel along with 26 relief boats.

Accordingly, the naval rescue teams are deployed in Kamburupitiya, Neluwa, Imaduwa, Wnaduramba, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Mathara, Deiyandara, Henakaduwa, Hungama, Padukka, Hanwella, Mathugama, Puwakpitiya, Bulathsinhala, Baduraliya, Kalawana, Udugama and Pitigala to undertake rescue operations assisting the public battered by the rains and floods.

Several parts of the island is experiencing this adverse weather condition and heavy down pouring is resulted with the activation of the South-west monsoon.
