Navy apprehends a local fisherman engaged in illegal fishing

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command apprehended a local fisherman engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorised fishing nets in the Vidattalativu sea area on Friday (19).

Along with the suspect, 2 traditional boats (Wallam) and 7 monofilament nets were also taken into Naval custody.

The arrested fisherman, boats and fishing nets were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mannar for onward legal action.
