Navy apprehends 8 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A group of Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 8 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities using unauthorised fishing nets, in the sea area off Norway Island, Trincomalee on Tuesday (16).

Along with the fishermen, a small boat and an unauthorised fishing net (300 m) used for fishing practices were taken into Naval custody.

The arrested fishermen and their fishing gear were handed over to the Trincomalee Assistant Director of the Fisheries for onward legal action.
