Premier appreciates Chinese and Sri Lankan book publishers

(UDHAYAM, BEIJING) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he appreciates the efforts of Chinese Book Publishers Association as well as Sri Lankan Book Publishers Association to exchange and strengthen the cultures of the two countries.

He made these comments on Tuesday (16) when he met the members of the Chinese Book Publishers Association and had discussions in Beijing.

Under the exchange programs of the two associations, Chinese books are published in Sinhala and Vice versa.

The Chairman of the Chinese Book Publishers Association said that the Biography of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe written by Sampath Bandara in ready to be published in Chinese.

Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang said that this book will be of immense value to Chinese as this book traces the modern history of Sri Lanka and reveal the experiences of a veteran politician in Asia.

Ambassador Xianliang added that according to the common release of the ‘One Belt One Road’ priority has been given to cultural cooperation. He said that from his embassy funds too more funds are allocated for developing cultural cooperation.

Sri Lankan Ambassador in China Karunasena Kodithuwakku said that the Chinese Book Publishing Association in addition to publishing books have also conducted many training programs too. He assured his fullest cooperation for this endeavour.

The members of the Chines Book Publishing Association presented mementos.
