US hails two-year performance of Sri Lanka’s Unity-Government

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka has economically reached a stable level under the performance of the current administration of Good Governance during the last two years, a United States (US) lawmaker visiting the island nation said.

US Congressman Bill Johnson (R-OH) said he sees ruling the country by two main political parties as a unique situation.

Mr. Johnson expressed these views during a meeting with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Monday (15) at the Ministry of Finance.

After making a tour of the North, Mr. Johnson told Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake that the ongoing rehabilitation and development activities in the North are successful. He also said that he is confident that the Government would take necessary action to fulfill the aspirations of the people in the North, if any.

The visiting congressman has met with Tamil leaders in Jaffna including the Chief Minister of Northern Province, C. V. Wigneswaran and civil society leaders and discussed social and economic needs of people in the North.

Minister Karunanayake said all parts of the country have been put under development by the administration of Good Governance. He also stressed that Sri Lanka is internationally succeeding under the abled guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Minister pointed out that the responses Sri Lanka received at the recently concluded biannual conference of the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) held at Washington DC are clear example to this situation.

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap was also present at the meeting.
