Aung San Suu Kyi requests support to strengthen democratic rule and Parliament

(UDHAYAM, BEIJING) – Leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi requested support based on the experiences of Sri Lanka, to strengthen democratic rule and Parliament of Myanmar.

She made this request when she met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the sidelines of ‘One Belt One Road’ Forum in Beijing China on Sunday (14).

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe assured the fullest support and said that a delegation of the Sri Lankan Parliament will visit Myanmar in this regard.

Based on the historical ties between the two countries they discussed ways to strengthen the relationship.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe invited Aung San Suu Kyi to visit Sri Lanka for which she replied that she like to come to Sri Lanka and visit Kandy.

The Sri Lankan delegation included the Minister of Special Assignments Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Law, Order, and Southern Development Sagala Rathnayake, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickreme, Secretary to the Prime Minister Saman Ekanayake and Sri Lankan Ambassador in China Dr Karunasena Kodituwakku.
