Hambantota Unrest: Three more arrested

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Tangalle Police has arrested another 3 suspects for violating a court order preventing protests being staged and behaving in an unruly manner during the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the Hambantota Investment Zone (HIZ).

Police said the three suspects will be produced before the Hambantota Magistrates Court today (16th Monday).

A tense situation broke out during the opening of the Hambantota Investment Zone in Mirijjawila last week leading to clashes. Over 50 individuals have been arrested thus far over the incident.

32 suspects arrested and remanded on the same charge will be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court today.

When the case was last heard the Magistrate ordered an underage student to be placed at the Kithulampitiya Child Rehabilitation Centre in Galle.
