Navy recovers heroin worth Rs. 90 million from Northern Sea

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Coast Guard personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command recovered a consignment of heroin weighing 9.3 kg floating in the Northern Seas 8 Nm off the  Kankesanthurei harbour yesterday, Navy said.

Upon spotting a suspicious parcel floating in the Northern waters today morning, the Coast Guard personnel on routine patrol aboard Coast Guard vessel seized the parcel and brought it to the Kankesanthurei harbour for further investigation. Subsequent investigation conducted into the incident in coordination with Kankesanthurei Police, revealed that the consignment is heroin. The stock of heroin with a street value of 90 million will be handed over to the Kankesanthurei Police for onward legal action.
