Amber advisory issued for heavy rains

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber advisory for heavy rains.

Accordingly, the Met Department predicts heavy showers of about 150mm at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces.

It added showers above 75mm can also be expected elsewhere in the island.

Meanwhile, the Met Department said wind speed may increase up to 40-45kmph at times in sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.

Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
