Dates for LG election

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The National Election Commissions has reiterated its stance of conducting the Local Authorities Election before the 20th of March 2023.

Chairman of the Elections Commission Nimal Punchihewa said since September the Commission has the powers to calls for the elections.

He said they are not in favour of postponing any elections.

Elections Chief Punchihewa also said Provincial Councils are currently governed by officials instead of public representatives.

He said they the Commission is not in agreement with such an arrangement.

Chairman of the Elections Commission Nimal Punchihewa made these statements while holding discussions with a group of Parliamentarians.
