(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Russian flag carrier, Aeroflot, will resume flights between Moscow and Colombo from today.
Aeroflot which suspended flight operation to Colombo following an issue regarding one of its planes earlier this year, will operate two flights per week, on Thursdays and Sunday.
Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando said permission has also been granted to regional airline Azur Air to fly four charter flights per week, starting early November.
Minister Harin Fernando added that he is expecting an influx of tourists from Russia following the resumption of flights and authorities are holding discussions to increase the number of flights between Colombo and Moscow.
The development comes as the government taking steps to receive a large number of tourists from Europe during the winter months.
Minister Fernando also appreciated the efforts of the Russian Embassy in Colombo and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia which will pave the way for the increase in tourist traffic.
