Showers predicted in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology predicts showers at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

The Met Department said heavy falls above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern and North-Western provinces as well.

The Met Department noted that showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara district during the evening or night.

It added that strong winds of about 50-55kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.

Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
