(UTV | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara on Monday (29) has called for the appointment of a Parliamentary Committee on the procurement of fuel and coal.
The Minister also proposed that the post of Chairman of this committee be given to the Opposition.
Wijesekera said that MPs Champika Ranawaka, and others have repeatedly noted that coal and fuel can be procured at low prices, and therefore such a committee needs to be appointed to look into such possibilities.
In response to this, Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance MP Harsha de Silva said that the Committee on Public Finance has already been empowered to look into fuel and coal procurement.
But, the Minister further stressed the importance of setting up a Committee specific for this matter to stop slinging mud.
