New passport counter for those who seek foreign jobs

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A special counter was opened at the Immigration Department to get passports quickly for workers leaving for foreign jobs.

Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara approved the opening of a new special counter following discussions with officials of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and the Immigration and Emigration Department last week.

Based on the data obtained from pilot operations, it has been decided to open up the counter from for all Sri Lankans looking to travel overseas for employment from yesterday.

The special counter was opened after the Minister was notified of the difficulties faced by Sri Lankans looking to obtain passports for foreign employment due to the regular requests for passport issuance.

Thereby, applicants who have completed their initial process and have obtained the letter pertaining to their employment from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment can obtain their passports soon by providing the document at the special counter.
