Many Covid cases undetected due to lack of testing

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Government Medical Officers Association has warned that a majority being tested lately have returned positive results for the coronavirus.

GMOA Member Dr. Ruwan Jayasuriya said the risk of the coronavirus spreading has increased significantly.

He noted that due to the lack of testing, a significant number of positive cases have gone undetected.

Dr. Jayasuriya added that there were fewer cases in the recent past, however the number of infections are significantly on the rise.

He said the symptoms of the new coronavirus variant, New Omicron, includes body pains, sore throats, and fatigue while fever and colds are observed less in persons with the variant.

Dr. Jayasuriya urged the public to adhere to coronavirus guidelines including wearing a face mask, social distancing, washing hands frequently and using a hand sanitizer.

He also claimed that Monkeypox is spreading globally, and cautioned the public to remain vigilant.

Dr. Jayasuriya said the GMOA informed the Ministry of Health to educate the public on preventative measures.
