Request to begin electronic ticketing

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association has requested relevant authorities to expedite the process of issuing electronic tickets as stocks of printed tickets at railway stations are depleting.

The Association said Sri Lanka Railways has not shown any interest in the matter.

It was reported that the procedure of printing tickets at the Department of Government Printing has been halted and printing equipment has been moved to the printing office at the Sri Lanka Railways headquarters.

Station Masters said activities have slowed down due to the failure to assign trained employees as well as sufficient employees for work.

Therefore, if immediate attention is not directed towards the matter, an issue may arise due to the shortage of general tickets for issuance at the Colombo Fort, Maradana, Gampaha, Veyangoda, and Ragama Railway Stations as well as many sub stations.

The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association requested passengers to obtain season tickets if they hope to use the train daily and to also obtain return tickets from the same railway station.
