(UTV | COLOMBO) – Emergency regulations under section 5 of the Public Security Ordinance have been gazetted.
The Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued by Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Accordingly, the proclamation has detailed seven parts pertaining to emergency regulations, general, essential services, right of entry, search and arrest, offences and penalties, investigations and trials, and miscellaneous.
A state of public emergency was declared in Sri Lanka yesterday under section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance.
The Extraordinary Gazette notification issued by the Secretary to the President, Gamini Senarath states the provisions of Part II of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), will come into operation throughout Sri Lanka with effect from yesterday.
The public emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka, in the interests of public security, the protection of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community.
