Update on bus & train operations

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Power and Energy says a petrol shipment is due to arrive in the country today or tomorrow.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said the payment for the shipment has been completed.

Meanwhile, two diesel shipments arrived in the country in the past few days as well.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board says certain depots have not received the stocks of fuel requested on time.

SLTB Deputy General Manager Panduka Swarnahansa said if they don’t receive necessary fuel tomorrow, the number of SLTB buses deployed will see a reduction.

Meanwhile, private bus operators have pledged to deploy additional buses tomorrow, if they receive adequate fuel today.

Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne said only a limited number of private buses are in operation at present due to the fuel crisis.

However, Sri Lanka Railways says trains are operating according to the usual timetable.
