Basil’s attempt to flee the country failed

(UTV | COLOMBO) – It has now been confirmed that the VIP who attempted to flee the country today via Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport is former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

He had attempted to leave for the United States via Dubai this morning through the VIP Silk Route Terminal.

However, he had to abandon his flight and return due to the opposition from the passengers within the airport.

Basil Rajapaksa had arrived at the Katunayake Airport to board Emirates Airlines flight EK-349 which was scheduled to leave for Dubai at 03.15 this morning.

Meanwhile, Immigration and Emigration officers of the VIP Silk Route Terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport have withdrawn from services as part of trade union action.

They said the decision to withdraw from duties was taken as former politicians accused of being responsible for creating the prevalent economic and political crisis may attempt to leave Sri Lanka through the VIP Terminal.
